Listing Description

The Australian Public Service Commission recruits annually for the Australian Government Indigenous Graduate Recruitment Program. Applications for the 2018 program closed on Monday 10 April 2017. If you are an Indigenous graduate seeking employment with the Australian Public Service during 2018, search the Current Vacancies page for agencies which may still be recruiting for their individual graduate development programs.

As a graduate in the Australian Government, you will get diverse hands-on experience that will help you develop a strong professional grounding. You will be exposed to public governance in a range of business areas while gaining practical experience in your area of expertise. The skills and knowledge that you will develop will give you a professional advantage in the increasingly competitive workforce, wherever your career may take you.

While the large majority of positions are located in Canberra, agencies may provide assistance to help you move. There are limited positions available in state capitals and regional centres as well.

Typically, Australian Government graduates undertake a structured program over 12 to 24 months which comprises:

work rotations designed to increase your understanding of the overall business of the employing agency
on the job and structured training designed to help you establish and build a fulfilling career
networking opportunities with former graduates, Indigenous employees and senior leaders from the outset to build personal and professional networks.
Successful candidates will commence with their employing agency. They will participate in the same agency-specific graduate development program as the graduates recruited through their direct intake. They will also receive the salary and conditions outlined by the employment framework of the employing agency.
